How to choose the right doll making course

You may have already made your experience with Waldorf inspired dolls and would like to share them here, please do! We can always learn from one another. What you will learn here is by all means NOT the only way to create these type of dolls. I will share what I have learned over the past 30 years, and what has helped me. You may have seen things done differently elsewhere and that is great. There are always multiple ways to get to the goal.

The courses that I will offer online are:

The Cuddle Ringalina doll

As the name suggests this doll is soft, easy to grab, hold, and cuddle. It is usually made of cotton velour and stuffed with wool batting. It is perfect for the child up to 3 years of age. The cuddle doll has little to no facial expression, some doll-makers don't even give it an embroidered face. At 8 month, babies are starting to recognize faces across a room. The nice thing about it is that eyes and mouth can be embroidered later on at any time. This doll is wonderful as a first doll and can grow with the child. As said before, the eyes and mouth can be added later, as can the hair, and clothing. Perfect for the age 0 - 3 years.

The traditional Waldorf inspired doll

I call it the traditional Waldorf doll because this is the type of doll that is created in Waldorf schools all over the world. I used to teach in our local Waldorf school, where students created this type of doll. This doll has a more defined body, sewn out of the same fabric as the head. It has a "human-like" body, unlike the cuddle doll that is more like a pillow. Though it is not as much detail as the Ringalina Doll or Baby. The main difference here is that the torso and legs are created out of a continuous piece of fabric. This doll is wonderful for the child 2 years and up and allows dressing and undressing. Undressing is what most 2-year-olds do, but they can practice putting on clothes as they grow older.

Perfect for the age 2 years and above.

The Ringalina Doll

This is a doll that has attached arms and legs with a torso that is worked up separately. Hair choices are often geared toward the older child to be more careful and invite practicing braiding. This, of course, depends on the maturity of your child. This doll often is created with more detailed facial features. A nose, cheeks, and chin can be added for more detail. There is no difference between boy or girl dolls.

Perfect for the child older than 4 years of age.

The Ringalina Baby

The baby has attached arms and legs, but more bend then the Ringalina doll, with a torso that is worked separately. The bend arms and legs give the curled up the appearance of a baby. This doll is a great addition when you are expecting a younger sibling come into the family. This doll allows the older child to care for while you care for your newborn. This doll often is created with more detailed facial features. A nose, cheeks, and chin can be added for more detail. There is no difference between boy or girl dolls.
