All Year Handwork Course

$ 150.00

The course will be taught at Cloth & Twine on 110 E. King St, Edenton, NC 27932. Wednesday morning and afternoon courses are available to a limited number of students. The morning workshop could be a great addition to a homeschool curriculum. Morning classes are between 10:00 am and 11:15 am, and the afternoon from 4:30 pm to 5:45 pm.

Over the course of 40 weeks that I get to spend with your child, we have a lot to explore. It will be all about textiles, especially wool. We may start off with dyeing yarn to use in our first knitting project. By the time temperatures grow colder a hat might be finished. I can't wait to teach your child how to knit, felt, weave, sew, and maybe even spin.

Students should be between 9 and 13 years, but you as the parent are the best judge of your child's abilities and interests. If you are interested in enrolling your child you can check out here or come to the shop.  Please complete the form, and return it to us with the reservation fee either via mail or drop off. Your spot is only reserved when payment is made.

By signing up you agree to a total of 10 payments of  $150 each. Some months have 5 lessons and others 4, 3, and June only 2, but we will have a total of 40 lessons throughout the year.

 If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

This handwork "class" continues throughout the public schoolyear and follows their holidays.

Throughout the year we will spend time knitting, felting, and sewing. Depending on each group we might also touch on spinning, weaving, and crocheting. If I find a group extremely interested in knitting we will build onto the basics and learn more advanced stitches. If a group really loves felting we will venture into wet-felting a pair of slippers, etc.

Whatever we end up making, your child will use his or her own measurements to create the pattern and design. Example: when we make a pair of slippers, your child will use his or her feet for size.

I used to teach Handwork at the Emerson Waldorf School in Chapel Hill and would love to bring this skill to my community here in Edenton.

All materials are included in the course fee and all tools will be provided.

By signing up for any of my classes your child agrees to follow basic safety rules in and around the workspace. I will go over these rules with all students during their first lesson.

Due to Covid-19, we will be limited to a maximum of 3 students per group. However, if you are a family with more than 3 children and interested in enrolling them in the same group please let me know, I am happy to accommodate your needs and will consider each request.
