In-Studio Basic Sewing Machine Course
The course will be taught at Cloth & Twine on 110 E. King St, Edenton, NC 27932. Monday morning and afternoon courses are available to a limited number of students. The morning workshop would be a great addition to a homeschool curriculum. Mornings classes are between 10:00 am and 11:15 am, afternoons from 4:30 pm to 5:45 pm. Sewing Camp during Christmas break is being held daily for a morning group and an afternoon group.
Students should be between 9 and 13 years, but you as the parent are the best judge of your child's abilities and interests. You will receive a pdf after check-out. Please print it, complete the form, and return it to us either via mail or drop in. I can't wait to teach your child how to sew, or just come into the shop and reserve your spot in person.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
In this basic sewing machine course, your child will learn about the safety and the use of basic tools and materials in the sewing workspace, and finish at least two projects.
- The use of all tools will be provided.
- He/she will be introduced to the sewing machine and its basic functions.
- He/she will learn how to set up the workspace.
- He/she will learn how to sew straight and curved lines.
- He/she will learn how to create a simple pattern and create something using it.
- He/she will complete two basic projects using the skills as they are learned.
No need to bring a sewing machine or other sewing tools. They are made available in the sewing room for your child to use. I recommend that the fabric needed for the projects are purchased by you. This is a great way to let your child design his/her own creation. Please refer to “the shopping list” below for amounts. If you would prefer your child using my materials, please let me know a week prior to starting, I am happy to have appropriate fabric available.
By signing up for any of my classes your child agrees to follow basic safety rules in and around the workspace. I will go over these rules with all students during their first lesson, but please read over them on one of the pages of this information packet.
Spaces in each session will be limited to a maximum of 2 students. However, if you are a family with more than 2 children interested in enrolling them in the same session, please talk to me. I am happy to accommodate your needs and will consider each request.
When reserving your space please use appropriate group name and number, e.g. MM4, MA3 in the drop-down menu
MM = Monday Morning Group + number of session (MM1, 2, 3, 4, or 5)
MA = Monday Afternoon + number of session (MA1, 2 ,3, 4, or 5)
CM = Camp Morning
